Baked oatmeal with apple topping

I had a bunch of apples to use up from a, family apple picking outing, and so I decided on a nice, baked oatmeal with a apple topping.

This is a great dish to whip up the night before!

BEFORE

apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice

cups old-fashioned oats
1/2
cup raisins or dried cherries
4

1/3

2
tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1
teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4
teaspoon salt
5
medium apples, chopped (4 cups)

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In 2-quart casserole, mix oats, 4 cups milk, butter, cinnamon and salt and apples.
  • In a separate bowl, mix apples, raisins (or cherries), 2 tbsp orange juice, brown sugar and apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice.

  • 2 Bake uncovered 40 to 45 minutes or until most liquid is absorbed. Top with walnuts. Serve with additional milk.
