How I’m Getting Through This Frigid Winter (Because Loving It Is Not an Option)

I am not one of those people who romanticizes winter. No snow day fantasies. No “it’s so pretty out” energy. Everyone who knows me knows this about me. I detest winter. And this one? Extra awful. I mean… it’s currently 13 degrees. Thirteen. Ick.

Cold like this makes me want to do absolutely nothing, which sounds fine in theory, except life doesn’t pause just because my fingers feel frozen and my motivation has gone into witness protection. So instead of pretending I suddenly love the season, I’ve focused on getting through it, staying warm, comfortable, and as well as possible with a few simple things that are genuinely helping.

Warm Feet Without Slippers (Because I’m Not That Person)

I am not a slipper wearer. Never have been. They’re either bulky, make me feel clumsy, or I’m convinced I’m going to slip and break something.

This winter, Walifrey Grip Pilates Socks (Yoga Socks with Grips, pack of 3) have been my solution. They keep my feet warm and give me that little bit of grip so I feel steady moving around the house, stretching, or doing light movement. Cozy and practical, which is exactly what I need when it’s freezing.

Fighting Flat, Staticky Winter Hair

Winter hair is a whole situation. Dry, flat, staticky… even my cats are full of static! I pet them and it’s like a tiny little winter shock parade.

I’ve been using Biolage Volume Boost Conditioner, and it’s been a solid winter win. It adds moisture without weighing my hair down, helps with shine, and actually detangles easily. My hair doesn’t feel limp or sad after which, during winter, feels like a small miracle. I also appreciate that it’s paraben-free. And as a former hairstylist this has always been one of my favorite brands.

Skincare That Can Handle Cold Air and Indoor Heat

Between the cold outside and the dry indoor heat, my skin definitely needs backup this time of year.

I keep reaching for LANEIGE, one of my longtime favorite skincare brands, because their hydration really delivers.

  • Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream has been my daily staple. It’s rich without being heavy and helps support my skin barrier when everything feels tight and dry.

  • Water Sleeping Mask is my nighttime secret weapon. I put it on before bed and wake up with skin that looks refreshed  even if my sleep wasn’t.

  • Lip Sleeping Mask is non-negotiable in winter. Dry, flaky lips don’t stand a chance. I use it every night, and during the day.

Red Light Therapy

One thing I didn’t expect to love as much as I do this winter is my Red Light Therapy Lamp (with 660nm & 850nm near-infrared light).

I use it during the day, especially on days when I’ve been inside too long or just feel stiff, tired, or blah. The warm glow alone is calming, but I also love it for skin support and overall winter wellness. It’s one of those small rituals that makes slowing down feel intentional instead of like I’ve given up on the day.

Winter will never be my season. I’m not trying to become someone who loves it. But having a few cozy, helpful, genuinely comforting things has made it a lot more manageable.

If you’re just trying to survive the cold right now, I see you. Keep the heat on, make the cocoa, wear the warm socks, and do whatever helps you feel a little better. Spring will come eventually, even if winter is being extra stubborn this year.
