Not a Protein Shake Person? Try This Instead

I’m not usually a protein powder person.

I’ve always leaned more toward whole foods, simple ingredients, things I can recognize. A lot of protein powders just feel a little too chemical for me. Too many fillers, too many extras that don’t need to be there.

So for the longest time, I just skipped them.

But lately, I’ve been trying to be more mindful about getting enough protein in my day. That’s what led me to try this one: Rule 1 Naturally Flavored R1 Protein Whey Isolate (Dark Chocolate)

The ingredient list is short, no unnecessary fillers. It felt like a middle ground I could feel okay about.

At first, I kept it really basic. My favorite way to use it was blending it with coconut water and ice. It’s really good that way. Light, refreshing, and an easy way to get some extra protein in without overthinking it.

But recently, I had one of those random kitchen moments…

I was about to make my usual yogurt, and I thought, what if I just mix the protein in instead?  And now? I love it even more this way.

Thick, creamy, and chocolatey. Almost like a mousse. Not chalky, not overly sweet. Really satisfying.

My go-to:

About ¾ cup of Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla), mixed with a scoop of Rule 1 dark chocolate protein, then I top with diced kiwi and sometimes I add diced strawberries but you could add any fruit you like, a handful of Love Crunch Dark Chocolate & Coconut Granola, and a drizzle of honey.

I’ve been reaching for this in the morning when I want something quick, but it also makes a great afternoon snack.

It’s one of those small changes that doesn’t feel like a big deal, but it quietly helps. A little more protein, a little more balance, and something I actually enjoy eating.

And for me, that’s the goal. Just finding things that feel good and stick.

If you’re someone who usually avoids protein powders like I do, this might be a way to ease into it. Something simple, with ingredients you feel okay about.
