If you’ve worked with aluminum sublimation bookmarks, you might have noticed something a little annoying…those sharp edges on the blank….especially on the one sided blanks. I ran into this recently after receiving some bookmark blanks, and since I’m all about making sure my finished products are safe to handle, I came up with a simple trick to fix it.
✅ All you need is a basic sanding block.
But, and this is important…. you have to be careful not to scratch the surface of your bookmark, especially if it’s only sublimated on one side.
Here’s what worked for me:
Peel off the protective film on the back of the bookmark (the plain aluminum side).
Leave the protective film on the front this keeps your sublimation surface safe from accidental scratches.
Gently sand just the edges with your sanding block. Keep your pressure light and focused only on the sharp edges.
Avoid rubbing the flat surfaces to keep both sides scratch-free.
Once you’re happy with how smooth it feels, remove the protective film from the front, give it a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth, and it’s ready to use!
It’s a simple extra step, but it makes a big difference in the overall quality of your product because no one wants to hand out gifts (or orders!) with rough or sharp edges.
Hope this little discovery helps you out in your crafting!
Happy sublimating!
